Eligibility to become a member of The Word Guild, or to enter writing contests sponsored by The Word Guild, requires that you agree with this Statement of Faith, which is based on The Apostles’ Creed:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
the Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:
Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven,
and sits at the right hand of God the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic* church,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.
* The dictionary defines ‘catholic’ as the whole or universal church – not any one denomination. Since the sixteenth century, catholic simply meant “general” or “common.” Applied to the Western Church, it essentially meant “the Church universal,” or the whole body of Christian believers, as opposed to separate congregations.
