What if I’m shortlisted but not able to attend the Gala?

Please email The Word Awards Coordinator to confirm if you are not attending the Gala.  Inform The Word Awards Coordinator who, if anyone, will or will not be present to receive an award in the event that your are chosen.

What do I wear to the Gala?

Our annual awards celebration will be a black-tie event. We’re requesting tuxedos or dark suits with ties for men, formal or semi-formal wear for women. However, don’t let wardrobe concerns keep you away, especially if you’re packing light or coming from a distance; just wear your best outfit! There will be a delicious meal and A streamlined awards ceremony, so you get home before the sun come up!
Professional Photos of the evening will be taken to capture lasting memories!

Is Seating Assigned at the Gala?

No, there is only reserved seating for the TWG board, MC, Fresh Ink Students table and staff.  You are free to sit with whomever you wish.  There will be tables of 8-10 at the Hall. If you aren’t attending the Gala with anyone, find our room hostess and she’ll help find you seating with a table of friendly people.

If I win, do I have to say a speech?

Most Winners don’t have to say a speech!
Yes, you can thank us later!  In an effort to streamline the awards we are not having speeches for the regular categories.  This knocks off 45 minutes from the program.

*The Category Winners that DO have to give a speech are the Specialty Awards Winners:
Best New Canadian Manuscript (Winner from the Short List)
Harvey/Mackey, Debra Fieguth, Leslie K. Tarr and the Grace Irwin Award Winners

When do I get my judging marks?

Judging marks will be emailed by the second week of July

Any further questions, please email The Word Awards Coordinator.
