What's the thermometer about?

The Word Guild is at an important crossroads in its history. In order to more effectively equip and support writers across Canada, we need $20,000 to increase our ability to offer more and better services. A generous donor has already given $10,000. We're half way to our goal!

Help us reach our goal by December 31, 2013, so we can implement more services in the New Year? A donation of any size will help strengthen our organization.

Click on the big, blue DONATE button to give. Then come back often and watch the thermometer fill up and reach the goal!

Charitable receipts will be issued at year end for donations over $15.00.

WHERE WILL THE MONEY GO?

The Word Guild needs a better customer relationship management (CRM) system and a more functional website that automates things such as membership renewals and awards entries, and that handles sales transactions including ebook sales. Automating some of these functions will free up staff time to add more services and implement greater vision.

Just one of the things planned is a Learning Centre, where writers will be able to download free and reasonably priced resources such as webinars, ebooks, ebooklets, podcasts, etc. Online workshops will also be available through the Learning Centre.

Sandra, a long-time member says, "I attended my first Write! Canada writing conference in 2002. Though I had one article published, I didn't consider myself a real writer. Writing was something I did in my spare time and squeezed into the crevices of my busy life.

Fast forward to August 2013—I celebrated nine years of generating my main income as a promotional writer and communication strategist. Two years ago my husband, who is a graphic designer and web designer, joined me in the business. We also hire other freelancers to work on projects. Through our company, we pay the mortgage as well as feed and clothe our two kids.

None of this would be possible without The Word Guild.

I received invaluable professional input at Write! Canada conferences through workshops and one-on-one meetings, as well as through connections made online and in person within The Word Guild community. I have also been given referrals that resulted in one-time projects and ongoing work.

Without The Word Guild, writing would still be just a hobby for me."

The Word Guild is making a difference to writers, editors, and readers. Thank you for your support.
